MediaTek vs Qualcomm Snapdragon | Which one is better ??

As the processor is the most important part of the mobile as it is responsible for handling all the process undergoing inside a Smartphone. That’s why choosing a right processor becomes a most important issue for the normal customer.  When we talk about the mobile processors, there are only two leading processor manufacturing companies available that are MediaTek and Qualcomm Snapdragon. In Todays latest technology world the mobile manufacturing companies are using both the MediaTek as well as Qualcomm Snapdragon processor as per their requirement to design a good budget smartphone.

 

Its bit confusing for a normal customer to decide whether to buy a MediaTek based mobile or a Snapdragon based mobile at a Good price.

 

Here I am Today to resolve the confusion between the MediaTek and Snapdragon processor and will give you a fair suggestion by comparing both the processors different series. So stay tuned till the end. MediaTek is a very old Chinese processor manufacturing company, developed their first processor in 2001. But the Qualcomm Snapdragon is the latest processor manufacturing company developed their first processor in 2006. Initially the Qualcomm Snapdragon was not very successful but now due to a very huge and highly professional Research and Development team they have developed a very high performance and better efficiency processors such Qualcomm Snapdragon  625, 650, 652, 653 etc for the budget phones.

 

The processors are judges by the performance given by them and the GPU provided with the processor.

• GPU (Graphical Processing Unit)

The MediaTek processors does not have their own GPU developing team. They use the GPU named Mali developed by the ARM. The problem is not with the Mali GPU, it’s a very food GPU. But the MediaTek, in order to reduce the cost of the processors they used the lower version of the Mali GPU. That’s why the Graphic performance given by the MediaTek processor is not very good in budget phones.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon develop their own GPU called Adreno based GPU. Due to their own GPU they have given then best Graphic performance and used their higher version of Adreno based GPU.

 

In case of GPU the Qualcomm Snapdragon is much better than the MediaTek.

 

• Processor and Power Consumption

The MediaTek has always played the numbers game by just increasing the cores of the CPU and developing the Octacore, Decacore, or the Hexacore processors at very high frequency. Due to the large number of cores at such a huge frequency, the processors are not able to become much more efficient. They have just consumed the more power and leading to the heating of the processors. We must always remember that in case of Smartphone more core does not mean a better performance, there are certain other things also we have to keep in mind while selecting a Processor.

Whereas the Qualcomm Snapdragon processors are all balanced processors and are well versed in giving the better performance. The Snapdragon processors are not available in the Decacore category.

 

In case of the Processors and the Power Consumption again the Qualcomm Snapdragon is better than the MediaTek processor.

 

• Lithography (Most important thing)

 

Lithography in simple words can be defined as the Semiconductor Size or the distance between the two semiconductor terminals, smaller the distance between the two terminal faster will the data will travel along the terminals.

The MediaTek processors that are normally used in the budget Smartphone’s that are MediaTek 6737, MediaTek 6750, and MediaTek 6753 are all available in the lithography of 28 nm.

Whereas the Qualcomm Snapdragon processors are available in 14 nm lithography, that is half to that of the MediaTek. So the data Transfer rate in the Qualcomm Snapdragon processors are faster than the MediaTek.

 

By comparing all the above fields I can say that the Qualcomm Snapdragon latest processors (Snapdragon  625, 650, 652, 653) I can say that the Qualcomm Snapdragon is much more better than the MediaTek processors.

 

At today’s situation there is no processor of the MediaTek that can withstand ahead of the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor on the same segment so I suggest you to always buy a Qualcomm Snapdragon based Smartphone’s.
